Ellijay is a special little town nestled in the North GA Mountains, just an hour’s drive from Atlanta. Ellijay is the anglicized form of the Cherokee name Elatseyi, meaning “new ground” or “green space”.
Ellijay is a great home base for your North Georgia Mountains visit. Within 15 minutes, you can be in Blue Ridge, visiting a vineyard or just exploring the hiking or biking trails in the Appalachian Mountains.
Cabins located on many rivers in the areas are the best way to relax during your mountain getaway. You can fish on the many trophy trout streams or feel free to tube and kayak over the rapids.
Everybody knows Ellijay, GA as the “Apple Capital of Georgia”, because it host the annual Georgia Apple Festival in October. This is the perfect time in the fall to visit and see the amazing colors of the autumn leaves across the mountains.
There is also an Apple Blossom Festival hosted the first weekend in May.
